Falsehoods I hear

  •      I do a lot of shows for my business, and I’ve heard a lot of Falsehoods It really bothers me, so I thought I’d address them.  Some people believe the lie from the bottom of their hearts.  While a few of these people flat out know better.  Let’s cure these false hoods up.

Let’s start with False hood #1: “Natural products are chemical free.”   Let’s think about this?  Water is H2O. Oxygen is O2. Air is Nitrogen (N), Oxygen (O2).  We are Carbon based life forms. I hope I made my point.  We can not get away from chemicals.  Chemicals make our world.  It’s scary, but true.

Second False hood: “Soaps made with lye are harsh.” Soapers can make soap as gentle like lotion and as harsh as can be The recipe used makes the difference.  What type of fat and other ingredients added to the mix.

  • The Third False hood: “Soaps made with Lye have has Lye in it During the soap process fat and lye becomes soap and glycerin.  (It is similar to a caterpillar changing into a butterfly.)Properly made soap has no lye in it.  Properly made soap has soap and glycerin in it A few things made with lye you might not be aware of: lutefisk, olives, and more. (source https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lye)

The fourth False hood: “You can make soap without lye.”  This one really bothers me.  Without some form of lye, you can not make soap.  Some people believe MP is lye free.  Melt and Pour soap also called MP. To find it, you need to look at the ingredients at a chemical level. I picked up some Shea Butter MP (Melt & Pour) soap from Michaels, for my Girls Scouts to play with.  This is the ingredient list of Shea Butter MP (Melt & Pour).  Lye comes in two types. [sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and potassium hydroxide (KOH)].  See all those red circles?  I missed a couple of them.  (I used Wikipedia to look up each ingredient listed on the lid of the MP soap. )

  • The fifth False hood: “Natural products are less harmful than “Man-made products” Not always.  Some natural products can be just as bad.  Potash is what happens when you soak burnt wood in water. Potash is lye.  It’s also why nothing ever grows in a fire pit.

    The last False hood #6:
  • Natural products are safe to use. They are safe because they have no side effects. This one is just scary.
  • Back in the day, you got the unrefined stuff.  Today, we can get it in it in its’ pure form meaning (concentrated form).  We still think of that natural.
  • When you roll flower in your hands, the essential oils of the flower will coat your hands.  No big deal.  If you take a vial of essential oils and pour it on your hands, and it can burn you.  Parsley is toxic, the side effect is death.  Of course, you’d be sick to your stomach (and likely throw it up) long before you ate that much parsley.  In a concentrated form you’re not as likely to throw it up.  So, the side effects are more likely to happen.  If its’ source in the form of a pill or oil, I would consider it refined.  Wikipedia is the source for this information.
